Your Cries Have Awoken The Master

Crossing the calm seas with Jesus, the disciples were getting concerned. The winds started violently blowing, but he was asleep in the stern. Does He not care if we perish? We’re helpless and we’re so afraid. Jesus arose when they called Him, and said to them where is your faith?
We all feel like the disciples felt in Mark 4: 35-41 sometimes don’t we? Whenever a storm comes into our lives – whether that is in the form of an illness, job loss, pandemic, etc., it can rock our world! We feel scared, anxious, fearful, and frightened. We feel as if our vessels are filling and we’re thinking that we will surely drown. We wonder, where is Jesus in the midst of this storm?
Brothers and sisters, we don’t have to panic, we don’t have to fear. We don’t have to question the love Jesus has for us. We have a choice! We can choose to let the storms of our lives dictate our emotions and our spirits, or we can choose to trust in our Savior. We can choose to run to Him, to cry to Him. He knows our voices and He listens.

When the storms of life come to ravage us, we have to ask ourselves what Jesus asked His disciples: why are we afraid? When we pause to reflect, our answers may surprise us.
Maybe, you’re afraid because you think you might not make it through this storm. Maybe, you’re afraid because you feel as if you don’t have any control. Maybe, you’re afraid because you don’t know what to expect; the fear of the unknown or the fear of the future. All of those reasons seem reasonable right? Of course they do, but here’s where we have a choice. We can cry out for help from our Savior, or we can let the enemy continue to pollute our minds with his lies. The enemy loves nothing more than to try and destroy our hearts, minds, and souls. He wants nothing more than to break us down and shake our faith to the core. He wants us to be weak, off guard, and to be filled with fear. But, there’s a powerful weapon and remedy to overcome him and his vicious lies and attacks. We can pray all night, hold on with all of our might, look up and speak these truths to our souls:
1. Jesus is more powerful than this storm. Read that again. Jesus IS more powerful than this storm. We can rest in this truth and not live by panic and fear when we acknowledge that God has authority and power over every storm you face! We don’t have to be afraid of what life brings us because God is with us every step of the way. As children of God, fear is not our portion. God did not give us a spirit of fear, but He gave us a spirit of peace, love, and hope.
Even if the storm in your life feels like complete chaos, take comfort in the fact that it cannot last one second longer than God allows. Psalm 46:10 says: “Be still and know that I am God.” We often interpret that as to rest before God. But, in addition, God is standing up for us and with us. He’s shouting to our enemies that HE is the one in charge.
When we understand that we don’t have the power to calm storms, eradicate viruses, and squash armies, we can relax. God holds that power. God’s the one – the only One – who can do all of those things. He is more powerful than any man, enemy, or forces of nature.
2. Jesus gives peace to our storms. Like the disciples, we may feel that we want to jump ship when the waves are just too high for us to handle. We may try with all of our might to stop ourselves from sinking. We may rely on our own strength to bail the water from the boat. All along though, we could just be resting in Christ. Psalm 128:8 says: “the Lord will watch over your coming and going, both now and forevermore.” That means, we can cast our cares and anxieties on Him. God has taken that responsibility to guard and protect us. He loves us that much!
That day on the Sea of Galilee, all it took was one word from Christ’s voice to calm the seas. Peace. Jesus said: “Peace, be still.” and the winds and waves obeyed Him! As He did that day, Jesus speaks peace over you and I, as well. It’s up to us to listen to His voice.
John 16:33 tells us how to truly have peace. Jesus said: “These things I have spoken to you so that in me you will have peace. In the world, you will have trials and trouble. But, be of good courage! I have overcome the world.” In this verse, Jesus gives us clear direction. Because we live in a sin-filled and fallen world, He warns us that we will have trouble. BUT, Jesus also declares a tremendous amount of hope too. When trials and tribulations come, Jesus says the way to find peace is in Him. That means, to really experience His peace, we have to find it in Him and in His words. And, if that direction wasn’t enough, Jesus also gave us the freedom from our enemies storms. Through His death and Resurrection, He overcame the world.
3. Jesus is present in this storm. It is true that we don’t know what the future holds. We don’t have crystal balls to see what is going to happen. The disciples didn’t either. They had no idea what was in store for them, but they knew that Jesus was with them every step of the way. They could see Jesus in the boat. And, my brothers and sisters, we can too.
Psalm 46: 1-3 says: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth gives way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea. Though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.” God is with us. Right here and right now. He is present in our situations. He is, was, and always will be.

The disciples got to the other side of the lake, and so will we. Whatever we’re facing – this pandemic, an illness, a divorce, or financial hardship – we will get through it with the grace and power of our incredible Savior.
Speak the truths above into your soul. Like them sink in deeper and deeper. Replace storm with whatever you’re going through in your life right now.
Jesus is more powerful than anxiety attacks.
Jesus gives me peace in these emotions.
Jesus is present in this uncertainty, grief, loss, and heartache.
Cry out to Jesus. He knows you. He knows your voice. He hears and He sees everything happening with you right now. Lift up His name. He will protect you. He will guide you. He will love you through it all. He’s bigger than whatever you’re facing, whatever burden you’re carrying. He declares you a victor, not a victim. Trust Him. Child, your cries have awoken the Master.
Please take a moment to listen to my beautiful friend, Sherry Anne‘s words. She is an incredible singer, songwriter, and sister in Christ. She wrote this song a couple of years ago, which happens to be my favorite, and it sums up why Christ came, how much He loves us, and how He is always there to calm the raging storms inside of us.

Beautifully said dear friend. Love this.
